MSC Nastran is a finite element analysis (FEA) software developed by MSC Software Corporation for structural analysis and design. It is based on the original NASTRAN code developed by NASA and is widely used in the aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing industries.
MSC Nastran includes a wide range of physics solvers, such as structural mechanics, dynamic analysis, thermal analysis, and acoustics. It also includes tools for multiphysics simulations, optimization, and design exploration.
MSC Nastran allows users to import 3D CAD models and create finite element meshes for simulation. It includes a range of meshing tools, such as automated meshing, surface meshing, and solid meshing. MSC Nastran also includes advanced tools for editing and optimizing meshes, such as mesh quality checks, element repositioning, and smoothing.
In addition to meshing, MSC Nastran includes tools for creating and managing loads and boundary conditions, such as forces, pressure, and constraints. It also includes tools for defining material properties and defining the type of analysis to be performed, such as linear or nonlinear analysis.
To become proficient in MSC Nastran, it is recommended to take training courses and obtain certification from MSC Software or its partners. MSC Software also provides online resources and support forums to help users learn and troubleshoot the software. Additionally, MSC Nastran can be integrated with other software in the MSC Software suite, such as Patran for pre-processing and MSC Apex for post-processing and visualization.
